Peco Power is a high-impact South African social enterprise that emerged from years of rigorous research and development at Wits University. Our primary objective is to achieve “Energy Freedom for All” by eliminating the barriers to reliable, clean electricity for the millions of households currently living off-grid or in energy-poor environments.
At the heart of our solution is the PowerBrickâ„¢, a patented, modular, and rugged solar energy system. Unlike traditional fixed installations, the PowerBrick is designed for extreme ease of use (plug-and-play) and scalability. This modularity allows families to start with basic lighting and phone charging and gradually expand their capacity to power appliances as their financial situation improves.
Our innovation extends beyond technology into a transformative distribution strategy known as the Champion Franchise Model. We recognize that sustainable energy access requires local presence and trust. To solve this, we empower local, self-driven entrepreneurs (“Champions”) who act as the bridge between Peco Power and the community.
Champions are responsible for:
Localized Distribution: Navigating the logistics of last-mile delivery.
Customer Service: Providing technical support and ongoing relational connection for the duration of the contract.
Financial Inclusion: Managing rent-to-own collections, making high-quality solar technology affordable through manageable monthly payments.
By linking Champion commissions (R30 per active subscriber per month) to successful payments, we ensure a high level of service and long-term system maintenance. This model not only addresses the energy crisis but also serves as a powerful engine for job creation and entrepreneurial growth within the very communities we serve.
